Moby Grape - One of the most overlooked and most deserving bands of the 60's, Moby Grape had one of the best albums to be released in the 60's. The album was released with five singles at the same time which only served to confuse all the disc jockeys at the time. The album with classics such as 'Hey Grandma', 'Mr. Blues', '8:05', 'Omaha' and 'Naked, If I Want To' was one of my favorites and I consider this a MUST HAVE for any record/CD collection. Fortunately the entire Moby Grape catalog is pretty much fully represented on the Columbia release "Moby Grape - Vintage" which is a two CD set which gives a history of the band and extensive notes on the songs. Moby Grape has reformed and is touring again so we may get a chance to see this band again. Recently Skip Spencer died due to a number of factors but I believe the band will still perform. From the Vintage Liner Notes: At first, Moby Grape paid off on all bets by creating that rarest of rock artifacts, the Perfect Debut Album. Issued in June 1997, two weeks after Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Moby Grape was-and still is-an effervescent synthesis of choirboy folk-rock singing, clattering garage-rock propulsion and white R&B moxie, charged with a love of rock's early roots and a vigorous refusal to be bound by the conventions of genre.
