Grand Funk played Orlando Florida Universal
Studios on August 23, 1997. these are some of the
pictures I took from that show. Grand Funk has to be one
of the most original bands from the 70's. They were hated
by the critics (what do THEY know) and loved by their
fans. They still kick butt and put on a dynamite show.
Tonight (I am writing this the same night of the show)
they played all the hits. Mark Farner was bouncing all
over the stage. A lot of the pictures on my digital
camera are blurred cause he was moving around so much.
One of the highlights of the show was when Don Brewer
came out front and sang "Some Kind Of
Wonderful" with Mel Schacher on bass and
Don just keeping the beat with his drumsticks and Mark
Farner singing harmony. The sound was generally pretty
good although the vocals sometimes got lost in the mix.
Don can kick butt on drums. I think these guys deserve to
be in the Rock & Roll hall of fame. They are all
original, with great songs and great music.
I had the opportunity to interview Don
Brewer who gave a lot of great insights to the band.
Portions of the interview were used in the book "An
American Band - the Story of Grand Funk Railroad"
by Billy James. (1999) Cool book, even has my name listed
in the reference section and in the acknowledgements
