Chris Duarte is another Austin guitar player who has been tagged with the next "Stevie Ray Vaughan" title. Although in his case he just might pull it off. He is the most intense blues guitar player I have ever seen. Having seen him serveral times and having his style of guitar playing sound different each time as he develops his own style, I predict that he will carve out his own nitch and not be saddled with the "Next SRV" tag. His style is a mix of Blues, Rock, Punk, and Jazz which blends into an agressive musical stew. His first CD is called "Texas Sugar/Strat Magic" and is well worth checking out although it does not fully represent his live show. He has a new CD out called "Tailspin Headwhack". Both CD's are recommended. His real strong suit is his live show. Chris Duarte is on my short list of guitar players to see every time he is playing in the area. Chris was at the Sapphire Supper Club in Orlando on 4 April 97 and I have a few photos from that show. I also have two pages of photos from his last show at the Sapphire Supper Club on 24 Nov 97. The Sapphire Supper Club is one class establishment and is recommended for good seats, good food, reasonable prices, and great music. (I give it a rating of 10 on a 1-10 scale) |
